Everything you ever wanted to know about liposuction but were too afraid to ask

Do you work out hard at the gym and eat healthily, but still find that some parts of your body simply refuse to change? Just can't shift those last few excess kilos? It's been a while since you gave birth, but some parts of your body still remind you of the fact? You must have heard about liposuction. Getting rid of excess weight without effort and needless diets sounds like a dream. But are you worried about the pain, scars and massive financial outlay? You need not worry. Read how the entire operation is performed, what you are not at risk of (apart from weight loss), and how liposuction can change your life.

These days liposuction comes in the category of very common plastic surgery. Along with breast augmentation and eyelid operations it is the most common operation that we perform at our clinic. The operation is virtually risk free, and these days it is possible to carry it out on several areas at the same time. It is even possible to add the sucked-out fat to those areas where the client would welcome some more (such as breasts or bottom).

We perform tumescent liposuction and use a BodyJet machine for this. Tumescent liposuction consists of the insertion of a cannula under the skin and the injection of a tumescent solution beneath the skin. This solution contains an anaesthetic and solution which helps break down the fat cells. The solution is allowed to act for approximately 30-40 minutes, and then it is sucked out through the same cannula along with the fat.

We can reassure you. Liposuction is virtually painless during the operation and after it. The operation is performed under local anaesthetic, you are conscious for the entire time. Should there be any indication of discomfort, we increase the dose of anaesthetic, and the pain stops immediately. At our clinic you will be cared for by experienced professionals, and you really have nothing to fear. After the operation clients often feel strained, as if they had been working out at the gym. The results are wonderful. Liposuction can slim you down by up to one full dress size in just a couple of hours. If you are thinking of a more extensive intervention, consider abdominoplasty instead (removal of excess skin and tightening up of the muscles). But it is important to point out that liposuction will not remove cellulite or stretch marks. These have more to do with lifestyle, activity, genetics and overall care for the body than fat. During the operation the doctor will make small incisions of approximately 3mm in the area from where the fat will be sucked out, and a cannula will be inserted via them. For 24-48 hours after liposuction a pink solution containing a little blood will ooze out of the incisions. But you have nothing to worry about, as this is completely normal. As a result the scars are virtually invisible and healing is very fast.

The operation rids you of fat cells. Fat cells have no nucleus, and so they do not form again. But in order to prevent unevenness of the skin and so that the result looks good, they are not all sucked out. So just a few are left in the body, but they can start to grow in size in the case of bad lifestyle, overeating and an absence of physical activity. The only risk you run if you do not stick to the right lifestyle is that you will start to put on weight everywhere, but less in the areas of liposuction than elsewhere.

Before the operation you will have to visit your doctor, where you will have blood tests done. We also offer this service at our clinic. After consultation with the doctor who will perform the operation, nurses will look after you and prepare the premedication. The actual operation lasts approximately 90 minutes if fat is removed from, for example, 2-3 areas. You will go home on the same day as the operation. During the first 14 days after the operation, you will need to wear compression underwear constantly, i.e., 24/14. The period is reduced to 12 hours per day for the next 14 days. The first phase of healing lasts approximately 3 months, when the swelling and bruising disappears. So you can expect to see results three months after the operation. But be aware that the healing process differs from patient to patient.

Our doctors can remove fat from up to 6 areas during one operation. So the price of the operation depends on the number of areas. It ranges from EUR 1250 to EUR 2850. The price is final and all inclusive. In addition to the actual operation, it includes the anaesthesia, package of medicines and compression underwear which have to be paid for separately at other clinics, and also meals (we draw up a menu individually according to the client's wishes - all our food is organic) and taxi in Prague.
