Rhinoplasty (plastic surgery of the nose) is one of the most sensitive aesthetic procedures. The nose has a significant effect on how a person looks, and so any changes are immediately visible. Rhinoplasty at our clinic is only performed by truly experienced surgeons with good judgment. Rhinoplasty can reduce the size of the nose, model the tip of the nose, make the nose thinner, and balance the nasal barrier with a subsequent improvement in breathing.
The surgery is suitable for:
Anyone who is troubled by the size or shape of their nose. Either for aesthetic or medical reasons – for instance, due to extrusion of the nasal barrier.
In standard practice, these procedures are carried out separately; however, thanks to renowned Dr. Vašek, we offer these in a single surgical procedure, to the relief of many of our patients.
When to undergo surgery:
The surgery is available for patients from the age of 16, however only with parental consent. The procedure is freely available to patients over the age of 18.
What to expect:
Both size and shape can be changed. The changes should be discussed and planned in advance with your doctor.
How is the surgery performed:
Under general anaesthesia. The procedure itself, however, depends on the extent of required changes. In about 10% of cases, it is sufficient to alter the tip of the nose, while in 90% of cases the whole nose needs to be operated. In this case, the incision is made inside both nasal canals. A change of one or all nasal structures then follows the nasal barrier, nasal bones, lower lateral cartilages and nasal wings.
Stitches are located inside the nose and are self-absorbing. A nasal splint is applied after the surgery, which needs to be worn for about a week.
Length of hospitalisation:
Usually one day and one night. This is followed by rest at home for a period of 7 to 10 days; it is important to avoid bumping your nose during this period. We will also provide you with antibiotics, analgesics and anti-inflammatory medication. Sports are possible about a month after surgery.
What to expect after surgery:
A nasal splint needs to be worn during the first 7 to 10 days; we will apply the splint during the procedure. After that, you merely need to wait for the swelling to subside, which usually takes about 14 days. The swelling is then barely noticeable and disappears entirely in one year after surgery.
